Jan Taylor Memorial Tournament

The Third Annual Jan Taylor Memorial Tournament was held at ECC for the first time. It was declared a great success by those who played in the tournament as well as those who attended the party. The golf field was full with 72 golfers. The teams were divided into 3 Flights. The top 4 teams in the Open Flight and the Top 2 Teams in the other flights participatedin a Shoot Out to determine the overall winner in each group. The Open Flight was won by the team of Robin Flewellen, Ricky Huner, Chase Whitehead and BJ Williams. The Gross Flight was won by the team of Jim Bonner, Paul Holley, Len Sparks and Wayne Woodham. The net Flight was won by the team of Jason Curran, Britt and Charles Irvin, and David Taylor. This annual event to honor Jan also benefits St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. A memorial donation will be made in his name. By the time the October ECC newsletter comes out, we should have all of the expenses tabulated, and the amount of the gift will be communicated. The gift will be possible thanks to the participation of 72 golfers as well as donations collected at the Post Tournament Party. In addition, several individuals made donations directly to the event and the cause. These individuals are as follows: Mary Barrows, Wanda Bradley, Merrill Dillon, Ricky and Sherene Huner, Charles and Cindy Irvin, Jay Jaxon, Chris Jeffrey, Sam and Debbie Lemaistre, Julian Morgan, Stan Sellers, Jerry Stanley, Jack and Suzann Tibbs, Will and Denise Washington and BJ Williams. The generosity of these individuals helped keep the golf tournament entry fee low which helped increase participation and the donation to St. Jude. The event would not have been possible without the organizational skills of Golf Association President Ricky Huner. Ricky was assisted by fellow officers Mary Barrows and Jerry Stanley as well as Jim Bonner, Charles Irvin and Len Sparks. There were many compliments about the condition of the golf course thanks to our own Tony Atkins and JD Lecroy. Board Member Paul Eriksen led a group of volunteers on Monday and we are grateful for their efforts.
